Naturopath Carbrook

Why you should work with me

The stomach is the starting point for optimal health. As a result, your body is nourished. It’s where your neurotransmitters are made, and it’s also home to more than 70% of your immune system. Poor digestive health can contribute to mental health difficulties such as anxiety and melancholy, in addition to gastrointestinal disorders.

As a degree-holding Naturopath and Nutritionist, I am passionate about restoring optimal health through evidence-based nutrition and lifestyle changes, as well if the use of nutritional supplements and herbal treatment as needed.

To reclaim energy and good health, I believe in diagnosing and treating the underlying cause of chronic illness, as well as treating the whole person rather than just the symptoms.

Consultations

Initial consultations are one hour long. I ask you a lot of questions about each body system, such as the digestive system, nervous system, immunological system, and so on, during this time. I do this so that I can learn more about how you deal with your disease. After that, I take a quick look at your family medical history to see if you have a genetic relation to your present health issue. Finally, we examine your eating habits and physical activity.

My clinic, located conveniently just a short distance from Carbrook, in the KP Centre, 373 Chatswood Rd Shailer Park, offers face-to-face consultations. Alternatively, we can use Zoom for video conferencing, or we can just talk over the phone if you like.

Services offered

Food sensitivity testing

Food sensitivities can result in a variety of symptoms and illnesses. Because of the period between consumption and bodily reaction, foods that trigger these delayed reactions might be difficult to identify. The IgG food allergy test is a useful tool for identifying foods that cause this reaction. The results are tailored to each individual patient and give a simple, precise, and effective starting point for dietary changes.

This test looks for 96 typical meals that you’re probably eating on a regular basis. The following is a list of some of these foods.

  • Cow’s milk, cheddar cheese, and goat’s milk are among the five dairy products.
  • Wheat, gluten, gliadin, and oats are among the 25 grains.
  • There are 18 different vegetables in this dish, including garlic and onion.
  • There are 11 different types of fish and crustaceans, including prawns, crab, tuna, and cod.
  • Chicken eggs (yolk, white, and whole), beef, chicken, and pork are among the eight various eggs and meats available.
  • Apples, apricots, pineapples, and strawberries are among the 17 fruits.
  • Chocolate, coffee, honey, and cane sugar are among the 12 odd foods.

This is an at-home test that involves collecting a blood spot from a finger prick on a card. The findings are normally available in 12-14 days after the test card is submitted to the lab.

Microbiome testing

The Complete Microbiome Mapping Test is a stool-based test that assesses a patient’s microbiome, with a focus on microorganisms that cause disease or disrupt normal microbial balance.

The panel contains a diverse range of microbial targets, as well as immunological and digestive indicators. Pathogenic bacteria, commensal bacteria, opportunistic pathogens, fungi, viruses, and parasites are all screened for.

This test is especially helpful if you have any of the following symptoms.

  • Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) is a condition in which the intestines
  • Irritable Bowel Syndrome
  • Cramps or pain in the abdomen
  • Gut leakage
  • Bacterial Overgrowth in the Small Intestine (SIBO)
  • Allergies
  • Bloating
  • Diarrhoea
  • Constipation
  • Fatigue\sweakness

This is an at-home stool test, and the results will be available in 12-14 days after the sample is received at the lab.

Mood appraisal

Most of us will suffer anxiety or despair at some point in our lives. For the most part, it will pass, but for some of us, it will linger for decades. Nutritional inadequacies are widespread in mental health issues, according to studies. This could be owing to a bad diet, but it could also be related to nutrient malabsorption caused by a malfunctioning gut. Nutritional deficiencies can cause problems with neurotransmitter production, such as serotonin, dopamine, and GABA, to mention a few.

The Mood Appraisal questionnaire is a method for determining which neurotransmitter pathways require assistance. A 66-question mood rating questionnaire is emailed to you and takes around 10 minutes to complete. Each enquiry is linked to one or more neurotransmitters and offers information about each neurotransmitter’s condition.

Serotonin, Melatonin, Dopamine, Phenylethylamine, GABA, Adrenaline, and Endogenous Opioids are among the neurotransmitters tested. When the questionnaire is completed, the customer will know which neurotransmitter precursors and co-factors are optimal for them. Amino acids, as well as specific vitamins and herbs, can help to enhance metabolic pathways and support the HPA axis.

MTHFR testing

A variation in the MTHFR gene affects up to 40% of the population. This can have a negative impact on the methylation cycle, which is a key regulator of gene expression. A gene mutation can be inherited from one or both parents. A single or “heterozygous” mutation can cause a 40 percent loss of methylation function, whereas a double or “homozygous” mutation can cause a 70 percent loss of function.

The following are some of the most prevalent symptoms of an MTHFR mutation.

  • A history of heart attacks, strokes, or blood clots in the family
  • A woman’s family has a history of miscarriages.
  • Anxiety or despair in the family

A saliva sample and a swab of the inside of the cheek are used to test for MTHFR polymorphisms. We offer a Wellbeing Bundle that identifies the important MTHFR polymorphisms and how they affect numerous physiological systems, including the ones listed below.

  • Methylation
  • Production and action of neurotransmitters
  • Hormone production and metabolism
  • Status of the Detoxification Pathway
  • Status of antioxidants
  • Metabolism, transport, and absorption of nutrients
  • Metabolism of energy
  • Risk of cardiovascular disease
  • Expression of DNA
